Etsy and DAC7: when Etsy reports you, which data and what you should do
Etsy reports you to tax authorities if you complete 30 or more transactions in physical goods in a calendar year or earn at least 2,000 euros from physical goods. This reporting duty is called DAC7. You get a PDF summary by 31 January, and Etsy asks you for missing data beforehand.
Last updated: 29 October 2026
In short
- Thresholds according to Etsy: 30 or more transactions in physical goods a year, or at least 2,000 euros from physical goods, or sales of digital items "made to order".
- Your data: Name, address, bank account, tax number, VAT ID and sales per quarter.
- PDF: By 31 January each year Etsy sends you the reported information.
- Deadline for requests: If you do not provide requested data in time, Etsy puts your shop into holiday mode.
When does Etsy report me?
On its help page "Welche Informationen meldet Etsy für Verkäufer:innen in der EU, im Vereinigten Königreich und in Kanada?" (retrieved 29 October 2026), Etsy writes that online marketplaces in the EU must send data on sellers and their transactions to the tax authorities every year; this duty is called DAC7. Etsy reports you if one of these applies:
| Condition according to Etsy | Value |
|---|---|
| Transactions in physical goods in a calendar year | 30 or more |
| Revenue from physical goods (EU), after taxes and fees | at least 2,000 euros |
| Digital items "auf Bestellung" (made to order) | sales within the calendar year are enough |
Sellers who do not reach the thresholds in the tax year are exempt from reporting, Etsy says. The legal basis in Germany is the Platform Tax Transparency Act (PStTG); the basics are in DAC7 reporting for platform sellers.
What this means for you: Check whether you reach 30 sales or 2,000 euros a year; if so, you are in the report.
Which data does Etsy report about me?
It depends on whether you are registered as an individual or as a business. For individuals, Etsy lists:
- first and last name, primary address and date of birth
- a bank account number into which your sales proceeds go
- tax number and, if you have one, VAT ID
For businesses, Etsy also names the commercial register or trade number and all permanent establishments, among others. Financial data is added: the total number of transactions, the total amount paid or credited to you in each quarter, and the total of fees, commissions or taxes Etsy withheld or charged.
What this means for you: Keep your tax number and VAT ID up to date in your Etsy account, because exactly these fields are reported.
What do I have to do, and by when?
- Check your details: Etsy notifies you by email and in Shop Manager when you reach the reporting threshold and asks you to check, update or complete missing details.
- Answer requests: If Etsy requests data and you do not provide it within the deadline given, Etsy puts the shop into holiday mode: no new orders and no listing in Etsy search until you confirm.
- Read the PDF: By 31 January each year you receive a PDF summary of the reported information.
- Report errors: If reported details are wrong, contact Etsy Support.
The legal deadline for informing the seller is in section 22(2) PStTG: the information must be given to the seller by 31 January of the year following the reporting period (section 22 PStTG, German page).
What this means for you: Answer Etsy's data email at once, or your shop pauses.
Does "reported" mean I owe tax?
No. The report tells the tax office what went through Etsy, not what you must tax. According to Etsy, the total is your gross sales minus refunds, fees and taxes Etsy paid over, not your profit. Your duties stay: sales in your income tax return, VAT, and for sales to private customers in other EU countries above the threshold the OSS return, if you take part in the OSS. The OSS page: OSS return for Etsy sellers.
What this means for you: Compare the Etsy PDF with your own sales before you file taxes.
Common mistakes
- Treating Etsy's report as your tax return. It replaces no return.
- Ignoring the data email. The result is holiday mode.
- Mistaking the PDF for profit. It shows payments and fees per quarter.
- Leaving tax number or VAT ID out of date. They are reported.
What this means for you: Update your tax details before Etsy asks.
