Which software analyses Amazon and eBay CSV reports for taxes?
Tax software that reads the Amazon VAT Transactions Report (AVTR) and the eBay orders report as CSV and sorts every sales row by country and tax procedure. VAT GPT reads both reports: you upload the CSV, VAT GPT shows you the totals for Germany and the EU countries (OSS) to check, and with VAT GPT Pro you send the advance VAT return via ELSTER and the OSS return directly to the BZSt.

In short
- Amazon: VAT GPT reads the VAT Transactions Report (AVTR) and sorts each sales row by the TAX_REPORTING_SCHEME column and the country.
- eBay: VAT GPT reads the orders report (Orders Report) with the column Verkaufsprotokollnummer, a CSV with a semicolon as separator.
- You check the result yourself: checking the figures stays with you, in any program.
Which software can do this?
Do not look at names, look at the function. For the two reports there are three ways, by function:
- Spreadsheet. You filter the sales rows in the long file yourself and add them up per country and VAT rate. That works, but it is manual work and error-prone with many rows.
- Software that reads the reports and sorts them. The program recognises the report from its header row, sorts each row by country and tax procedure and shows you the totals. VAT GPT works this way.
- Software that also sends for you. The program submits the advance VAT return and the OSS return for you. With VAT GPT Pro the advance VAT return goes to the tax office via ELSTER and the OSS return goes directly to the BZSt. Whether a program sends by itself is stated in its feature description; check it there before you rely on it.
What does VAT GPT read from the reports?
Amazon VAT Transactions Report (AVTR): VAT GPT recognises from the header row that it is an Amazon report and names a missing required column. It sorts every sales row by TAX_REPORTING_SCHEME and country:
- UNION-OSS belongs in the OSS return: cross-border distance sales to private customers in the EU, with the VAT rate of the destination country (§ 3c UStG).
- REGULAR with the country Germany belongs in the German advance VAT return.
- REGULAR with another country belongs in that country's return, not in the OSS return.
- Rows with an unknown procedure stay visible for checking. VAT GPT books fee rows (AMAZON_FEE) as expenses.
eBay orders report: The amounts are gross. VAT GPT works out net and tax from the total and sorts each row by shipping country (item location) and destination country. It skips the empty, summary and seller-name rows and reads the German month abbreviations in the sale date. Rows with a country that cannot be assigned stay visible for checking.
Uploading the same file twice does not count twice: VAT GPT recognises a file with the same name or the same content as a duplicate.
Checklist: what do you check in any program?
- Procedure per row. Depending on TAX_REPORTING_SCHEME, Amazon rows belong in the advance VAT return, the OSS return or another country's return.
- Fees kept apart. Rows with SALES_CHANNEL = AMAZON_FEE are Amazon's fee invoices, so expenses, not sales. If you count them, your turnover is wrong.
- Rows without a country. Rows with an empty TAXABLE_JURISDICTION are not customer sales, for example transfers between Amazon warehouses (FC_TRANSFER).
- Report month. Amazon lists a goods transaction by its completion date; one report covers at most 93 consecutive days.
- Gross and net. In the eBay report the total is gross; you have to work the tax out of it.
- Shipping country. For eBay the item location decides, not your place of residence and not the buyer's country.
- Cancelled orders. Rows with a total of 0.00 are not sales.
- Duplicate files. Anyone who downloads overlapping periods counts sales twice.
- Foreign currency. You convert sales in other currencies into euros. For the OSS return the ECB rate of the last day of the quarter applies (§ 16 (6) UStG).
How VAT GPT helps
By hand you filter the sales rows and add them up per country and VAT rate. VAT GPT does that for you:
- Upload the CSV: You upload the Amazon transactions report or the eBay orders report, several files at once if you like.
- Check: VAT GPT sorts each row and shows you the totals for Germany and the EU countries (OSS). You check and confirm.
- Send: With VAT GPT Pro you send the advance VAT return via ELSTER to the tax office and the OSS return directly to the BZSt.
